Matt Silver took some very lovely photos from when I played Lincoln Hall in Chicago with Michelle Chamuel earlier this month. It was the last date on her tour, so there was a good amount of excitement and a palpable energy in the room. It was also a really special night because it was the first time I’d ever performed side-by-side with Michelle: we performed our song “You Don’t Know" together for the first time. We thought we’d go out with a bang :)

oh hey guys, my debut album is out and i’m as happy as a clam! in case you’re wondering what the heck is going on, let me fill you in:

the who: i’m christopher norman. hi. nice to meet you. i’ve been making music almost a decade and i’m finally getting alright at it.

the what: the name of the record is process, and it was two years in the making.while i’ve done all sorts of production work and collaborations and stuffs (like with Ze Frank, Abigail Stauffer, The Reverb Junkie, etc..), this is the first time I’ve done a full length album of my own music. i’m producing, i’m writing, and i’m singing, but mostly i’m just playing thirty minimoogs at a time.

the where: here’s where you can get process in your earholes:

the how: you can participate in process by listening, buying, sharing, or any combination of the above.

no plans for vinyl (yet, but maybe i’ll get featured on pitchfork, who knows?!) but we’ve got more merch on the way and some gigs to announce soon, so sit tight :) thank you for your attention! now back to your regularly scheduled tumbling.

p.s. it shouldn’t go without saying that the artwork for this record was all done by Ryan Cooper, a crazy talented artist here in Austin. check him out!

I Dig This Track premiered another song from my forthcoming record process today.

With a nod to “old-school” electronic acts such as AIR and Postal Service, Austin-based producer Christopher Norman brings us his latest single, “Bide”. When asked about the track, he told us, “I wrote it in my head one night while walking home from the bar. Know that feeling when you’re out with friends, and everyone is chatting and having a good time, but you still feel lonely? That’s “bide”. For me it’s about feeling like an outsider. Like you’re watching the world from your own little corner.” The sense of loneliness and longing certainly comes through in this track, which takes the listener on a journey through it’s haunting vocals, synthy beats, and evocative lyrics.

dear everyone,

i’m pleased to announce my debut album process is now available for pre-order in two formats:

  • digital album, $7 - pre-orders get two bonus tracks
  • physical cd, $15 - in a beautiful digipak featuring art by Ryan Cooper, laid-out with love by Brian Son, and printed by Sire Press. There’s a little pocket for goodies (who knows what could appear in there) and we’re shipping ‘em first-class in a biodegradable mailer (because you deserve it)

pre-orders are able to download the singles “integrate” and “sacrifice” immediately, and then process will be delivered to your inbox on the release day of 9/30. it’s been a very long road with very many false starts, and i’m so happy to be able to finally present an album to the world.

thank you for listening and go buy it!

Austin Spotlight: Christopher Norman

austintownhall:

A smoky and smooth, crooner-like vocal tone graces this track from Austin’s Christoher Norman.

Previously just turning the knobs, Mr. Norman built this warm electronically backboned gem to introduce himself to our radar. If you think want to bail in the first few seconds, don’t. The song builds in warmth and weight graced by the vocals to the break with a wonderful instrumental out. The second listen is even better.

The album PROCESS is due at the end of the month. Interested.

Austin Town Hall had some kind things to say about my new track “sacrifice”, which you can listen to on their blog over here.

here’s my fun little take on “Cult Logic” by Miike Snow. Brandon from The Burning Ear has been such a vocal supporter of my material, so when he asked me to participate in his 5 year anniversary coverpalooza I didn’t need any convincing! I’m in the final stages of completing an album, and this track is my much needed breath of fresh air for me. here’s to at least 5 more years of discerning taste and great music :D
